The Wollemi Pine
Under 100 specimens of this unique tree were found in a still secret location in the Wollemi National Park, East Australia, 200km from the centre of Sydney. Its closest botanical relation is the Monkey Puzzle Tree (Araucaria araucana). Fossils of the Wollemi Pine have been found dating back over 200 million years, making it one of the rarest and oldest trees on earth.
In order to increase its population, potted specimens are now being grown under strict controls and some of these will be made available for purchase in the UK this year.
Kernock Park Plants have been appointed as sole licensed grower in the UK. These amazing trees will be sold in association with RBG Kew, to whom a donation on every sale is being given. Details of how specimens can be purchased are available at www.wollemipine.co.uk.
As will be seen on the site, purchasers of this special tree can also order a standard engraved botanical label, or an individually engraved one to commemorate an event, such as a wedding, christening, birthday or anniversary. Sheen Botanical Labels is delighted to have been asked to supply these engraved labels and to be associated with Kernock Park Plants on this project.
